Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts BOSTON, MA – Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for Governor, officially welcomed Mike Minogue to the Republican primary and released the following statement:
“Now that Mike has finally made the ballot, I’m challenging him to a series of debates to give voters across the Commonwealth maximum opportunity to hear the candidates answering tough questions about their records and agenda. Specifically, I propose a minimum of three televised debates on the major networks and regional debates, including Greater Boston, the North Shore, South Shore, South Coast, Cape Cod & the Islands, Central Massachusetts, and Western Massachusetts.
“Nearly every major media outlet has expressed interest in hosting a debate between us. Voters deserve transparency on the issues. When it comes to Mike Minogue, voters have more questions than answers, and judging by his grasp of Massachusetts policy, I think Mr. Minogue has more questions than answers, too.
“If we are to defeat Maura Healey, the Republican nominee for governor needs more than slogans and vague rhetoric. Massachusetts needs serious leadership, real plans to make this state affordable again, and the ability to prosecute the case against Healey’s failed leadership. I’m the only candidate in this race demonstrating I have what it takes to win.
“Transparency starts as a candidate. If you are not willing to answer questions now, it won’t get any better if elected. I know that we have all had enough of the lack of transparency from Beacon Hill. Now is the time to show real leadership by practicing what you preach.”
