Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts BOSTON, MA – Today, Republican candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve wished the Town of Marshfield well as it appeared before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court challenging the MBTA Communities Act.
“Good luck to Marshfield as they stand up for local control in court today,” said Brian Shortsleeve. “The Healey-Kennealy MBTA Communities Act is a costly, top-down unfunded mandate that punishes municipalities, robs them of choice, and forces policies changes they never asked for.”
Shortsleeve said housing affordability is a serious challenge in Massachusetts, but argued that imposing one-size-fits-all mandates on cities and towns is the wrong approach.
“On Day One of my administration, we will file legislation to relegate this big government monstrosity to the ash bin of history,” said Shortsleeve. “We need to incentivize housing construction by reducing regulations and streamlining permitting to make it more affordable to build, and opening up state land for development, not forcing cities and towns that don’t want it to change their character and assume massive new costs.”
