BOSTON, MA – Today Republican candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve released a statement calling to reduce the sales tax from 6.25% to 5%.
“Tax-Free Weekend is a welcome break, but Massachusetts families shouldn’t have to wait all year for two days of relief. Under Maura Healey, working families, retirees, and small businesses are being squeezed every day. Massachusetts is in an affordability crisis, and we need bold action on day one.
“As governor, I will file legislation to cut the sales tax from 6.25 percent to 5 percent. Permanent tax relief will help families afford groceries, gas, and housing - and make Massachusetts more competitive with tax-free New Hampshire for workers, entrepreneurs, and job creators.
“If the legislature refuses to act, its members will have to explain why they chose higher taxes over the people they were elected to serve.”
