Calls on Governor to Turn Over SNAP Data to Feds
BOSTON, MA — Brian Shortsleeve, Marine, business leader, proven government reformer, and Republican candidate for governor blasted Governor Maura Healey today after State Auditor Diana DiZoglio revealed she found over $12 million in fraud occurring in several welfare programs, including SNAP.
“The outrageous bilking of taxpayers thanks to Maura Healey’s mismanagement is a scandal. Identifying and rooting out rampant fraud and abuse in our welfare programs is exactly why the federal government is asking for SNAP data, but Healey refuses to turn it over because she does not want the public to know the full extent of her incompetence. I am the only candidate for governor who has ever ordered an audit of a state agency, identified corruption, and put bad actors in jail. On my first day as governor, I will order audits of every agency in state government to root out waste and fraud. I am also the only candidate demanding that Healey turn over the requested records so we can fully understand how badly taxpayers are getting ripped off and fix the problem. Refusing transparency only protects a broken system and invites more fraud. Massachusetts deserves leadership willing to confront waste head-on, not hide from it.”
