Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts BOSTON, MA – Today, Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor, formally signed the No New Taxes Pledge, committing to oppose any and all efforts to increase taxes on Massachusetts families and businesses. The pledge, championed by Americans for Tax Reform, is a cornerstone promise to voters that government must live within its means—and not on the backs of hardworking taxpayers.
“Massachusetts families are being squeezed by the rising cost of living, and the last thing they need is higher taxes,” said Shortsleeve. “Maura Healey has proven time and time again she wants more money out of our wallets with her proposed taxes on prescription drugs and candy. Earlier this summer her Department of Revenue implemented new taxes on cable boxes. I’m running for governor to provide much needed relief. It starts with a clear promise: I will not raise taxes.”
Shortsleeve distinguishes himself in the race as the leading fiscal conservative committed to restoring affordability, streamlining government spending, and creating a climate where businesses and working families can thrive.
Shortsleeve, a successful business leader and former head of the MBTA, brings a track record of reform and financial management to his campaign. He previously served as the Chief Administrator and Acting General Manager of the MBTA, where he helped stabilize finances and implement cost-saving reforms.
“State government has a spending problem—not a revenue problem,” Shortsleeve added. “Instead of asking taxpayers to pay more, we need to demand smarter budgeting, eliminate waste, and grow the economy.”
The pledge is a written promise to oppose any and all tax increases. It was originally rolled out in 1986 with President Ronald Reagan signing. Nearly 1400 elected officials have signed.
