BOSTON, MA – Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve issued the following statement after Democrats rejected a Republican amendment that would have required a plan to control spending on taxpayer-funded inmate phone calls:
“When a program needs tens of millions more than what was originally budgeted, the responsible response is to demand answers, not write another check. Republicans offered a plan to control costs, and Democrats voted it down. That’s not accountability. As governor, I’ll repeal taxpayer-funded inmate phone calls altogether.”
