Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts Says “Mass Can’t Afford Sequel to This Horror Story”
BOSTON, MA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve today reacted to Maura Healey’s official campaign launch by pointing to Governor Maura Healey’s economic record, warning that Massachusetts has become unaffordable for working families, seniors, and small businesses under her leadership.
“Under Maura Healey, Massachusetts is now the most expensive state in the nation,” said Shortsleeve. “Thanks to her misguided policies, families are paying more for housing, energy, and taxes, even as Healey spent billions of taxpayer dollars providing free housing, meals, transportation, and health care to illegal immigrants.”
Shortsleeve pointed to the real-world consequences of Healey’s agenda, noting that more than 5,000 employers have shuttered, 12,000 private-sector jobs have been lost during her time in office, and Massachusetts now has the second most expensive energy and retirement costs in the nation. Meanwhile, surveys show that one-third of Massachusetts residents have considered leaving the state to escape the crushing cost of living.
“This is not sustainable, and it’s certainly not working,” Shortsleeve continued. “Massachusetts families are being squeezed harder every day while Beacon Hill refuses to take responsibility.”
Shortsleeve said voters face a clear choice in the upcoming election.
“Massachusetts simply cannot afford the sequel to this horror story,” he said. “We need a new governor who will cut taxes, lower energy costs, restore accountability, and make this a state where families and businesses can once again afford to stay and succeed.”
