BOSTON, MA – Today, Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor called on Maura Healey to put aside partisan politics and take urgent action to preserve federal funding for the Cape Cod bridges.
“We need a governor who will put our state’s needs ahead of politics regardless of who is president. If I was governor today, I would be on the first flight to Washington advocating for our Cape bridges that are in desperate need of replacement,” said Shortsleeve. “These aging structures are critical to the economy, public safety, and quality of life for residents across the Cape and Islands, and we cannot afford to let politics put this funding at risk.”
Shortsleeve pointed to examples of bipartisan advocacy in other states, citing Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, who met with President Trump on multiple occasions to fight for key infrastructure investments in her state.
“This is about leadership,” Shortsleeve added. “When Michigan needed help, Governor Whitmer didn’t let political differences stand in her way. She got on a plane and got results. The only thing stopping Maura Healey from doing the same thing is her own political grandstanding.”
