Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts TENS OF MILLIONS SHORT ON SNAP FRAUD
BOSTON, MA– Republican candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve released the following statement today after Maura Healey finally moved to implement chip-enabled EBT cards to combat SNAP fraud, a step Shortsleeve has been calling for since last fall, but only after months of mounting fraud revelations and years of ignored warnings, including from the Biden administration:
“Maura Healey is, as usual, a day late and a dollar short. Although in this case, she’s years late and short tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer money lost to preventable fraud. While her administration ignored warnings and failed to act, taxpayers were taken to the cleaners. How many other issues is she ignoring? It’s an all too familiar story under Healey.
“As governor, I will implement real-time fraud detection, strengthen eligibility verification, cooperate with federal investigators, and hold agencies accountable so this never happens again. Massachusetts taxpayers deserve leadership that does more than play catch up.”
