BOSTON, MA — Marine Corps veteran, business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor, today issued the following statement in response to reports that one of Governor Maura Healey’s top aides was arrested for drug trafficking and that a convicted child sex offender was employed by her Registry of Motor Vehicles:
A top aide to Governor Healey accused of drug trafficking. A serial child sex offender working at the RMV. Five cabinet secretaries fired or quit in just the past six months. This is not bad luck, it’s bad leadership.
These shocking incidents reveal a total collapse of standards, screening, and supervision across state government. Under Maura Healey, taxpayers are paying the salaries of drug dealers and child predators. It’s disgraceful and dangerous, and it tells us everything we need to know about how she runs her administration.
Governor Healey owes the people of Massachusetts an immediate explanation: who hired these individuals, what vetting failures allowed this to happen, and what steps she’s taking to purge state government of criminals, derelicts, and incompetents.
As governor, I’ll conduct a full audit of every agency, root out corruption, and restore integrity to Beacon Hill. Taxpayers deserve a government that protects the public, not one that employs those who prey upon it.
