Brian Shortsleeve for Massachusetts Nearly Triples The Fundraising Totals Of GOP Opponent

BOSTON, MA– Today Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican Candidate for Governor announced his campaign raised $285,045 in the month of June. The impressive fundraising haul once again far outpaces his Republican primary opponent and demonstrates Shortsleeve’s continued momentum. Within less than 60 days, Shortsleeve has raised over $600,000 showing he has the financial muscle to take on Maura Healey.
This second fundraising beat comes on the heels of Shortsleeve’s first 20 days of fundraising when he set the record for any non-incumbent Republican gubernatorial candidate over the course of their first full month after announcing their candidacy.
“I’m deeply humbled by the enthusiasm for my campaign, and grateful for the generosity of so many who believe I am the candidate to defeat Maura Healey,” said Shortsleeve.
Shortsleeve’s fundraising haul once again dwarf’s his GOP opponent, Mike Kennealy, who reportedly raised only $106,000 in June. This latest fundraising beat comes on the heels of Shortsleeve’s record setting May report when he raised three and a half times as much as Kennealy.
In each of his campaign finance disclosures, Kennealy has inflated his fundraising numbers with personal loans in excess of the legal limit to give the illusion of fundraising strength. He is currently challenging the law in hopes of reserving the right to reimburse himself in the future, a fact that contradicts his contention that his loans are a demonstration of faith in his campaign. In his April report, Kennealy also relied on thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions to inflate his fundraising totals, which he is being forced to refund.
“Brian Shortsleeve is the only Republican candidate who is demonstrating the fundraising capacity to defeat Maura Healey,” said Holly Robichaud. “If you are forced to keep cutting $200,000 loans to your campaign every month to compensate for your lack of support, that’s a deeply troubling sign for any candidacy.”
