BOSTON, MA – Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve today reiterated his call for Governor Maura Healey and Beacon Hill Democrats to immediately suspend the Massachusetts gas tax to deliver direct relief to residents in light of the president’s decision to suspend the federal gas tax.
“Suspending the gas tax is a no-brainer, and President Trump is right to do it on the federal level,” said Shortsleeve. “Massachusetts has been in an affordability crisis since Maura Healey took office, and we should be taking every possible step to provide immediate relief to our citizens. If Massachusetts joins the federal government in suspending the gas tax, drivers will save more than 40 cents per gallon at the pump. That’s real relief for families, commuters, and small businesses.”
Shortsleeve criticized Beacon Hill Democrats for failing to act while residents continue to face rising costs across nearly every aspect of daily life.
“It’s time to prioritize the people of Massachusetts over a bloated state government,” Shortsleeve continued. “I’m calling on Maura Healey and Beacon Hill to suspend the gas tax immediately. Massachusetts families cannot afford more delays and political excuses.”
