NEW BEDFORD, MA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve and his running mate, Shawn Oliver, will attend tonight’s New Bedford 110 th Annual Feast of the Blessed Sacrament, where they will meet with residents, local business owners, and community leaders while celebrating one of the city’s longstanding traditions.
Shortsleeve said New Bedford and the communities of Bristol County deserve a governor who is present, listens to residents, and is committed to helping the region grow and prosper.
“New Bedford is a city built on hard work, entrepreneurship, and family values,” said Shortsleeve. “Shawn and I are committed to revitalizing New Bedford and all of Bristol County by making Massachusetts more affordable, supporting our local businesses, creating good-paying jobs, and ensuring families can build a future here.”
As a New Bedford City Councilor, Shawn Oliver has firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing the city and has been a strong advocate for taxpayers, public safety, and economic development.
“Our campaign is about showing up,” said Oliver. “The people of New Bedford deserve leaders who are willing to listen, engage, and work alongside them. We’re proud to be here tonight celebrating this incredible community.”
Shortsleeve also noted that Governor Maura Healey pledged during her campaign to attend the New Bedford feast every year if elected.
“Unfortunately, that promise has not been kept,” Shortsleeve said. “Leadership means more than making campaign promises. It means being present and staying connected with the communities you serve. Shawn and I believe every region of Massachusetts deserves a governor who shows up, listens, and works to earn the public’s trust every day.”
The Shortsleeve-Oliver campaign has made revitalizing gateway cities and strengthening local economies a central part of its platform. Their agenda includes lowering taxes, reducing energy costs, supporting small businesses, and creating an environment where families and employers can afford to stay and grow in Massachusetts.
“New Bedford has enormous potential," Shortsleeve added. “With the right leadership, we can make this city and all of Bristol County even stronger. That’s why we will be there tonight to celebrate this community and to demonstrate our commitment to its future.”
