Shortsleeve: Healey Should Not Use Taxpayer Dollars to Medically Transition Children

BOSTON, MA – Following the Healey Administration’s announcement that Massachusetts would use state taxpayer dollars to fund gender transition  therapy for minors if federal Medicaid and CHIP funding ends, Brian Shortsleeve released the following statement:

“Every child and family deserves compassion, but taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund therapies that can result in irreversible physical changes to children. Kids facing these challenges deserve our understanding and appropriate mental health support, not taxpayer complicity in their permanent physical transition before they are old enough to make adult decisions, and which they may come to later regret.”
