SHORTSLEEVE: MILLIONS IN BENEFITS FRAUD SHOWS SYSTEM IS WIDE OPEN UNDER HEALEY

BOSTON, MA — Republican candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve today reacted to new federal charges involving nearly $1 million in public benefits fraud, part of a broader crackdown that has uncovered millions in fraud across SNAP, MassHealth, and Social Security programs.

“This isn’t an isolated case, it’s a systemic failure. Nearly $1 million in charges today, and almost $9 million since December. Maura Healey can’t keep pretending this isn’t a real problem. Leah Foley is doing the job Healey won’t: enforcing the law and protecting taxpayers while Beacon Hill looks the other way. When fraud is happening at this scale, for years in some cases, that’s not a glitch but a breakdown driven by weak oversight and a governor who’s simply not interested in protecting taxpayer dollars.

Healey refuses to turn over SNAP data, refuses to cooperate fully with federal authorities, and families are left footing the bill. If she won’t enforce the law, she should get out of the way. This is just the tip of the iceberg and on Day One, we’ll audit everything, crack down on abuse, and restore accountability.”
