SHORTSLEEVE: HEALEY CONFIRMS MASS IS SANCTUARY STATE WITH ICE COURTHOUSE BAN

BOSTON, MA –  Today, Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor released the following statement in response to Governor Maura Healey’s newly announced ban on federal immigration officials operating in Massachusetts courts:

“Today, Maura Healey admitted cooperation with federal law enforcement is necessary and proper. Then she banned it. She claims Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state while issuing orders that block law enforcement from courthouses and stop basic law enforcement at the very touchpoint that would best ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of custody of criminal illegal immigrants. Instead, Healey would rather release them onto our streets and force federal agents to find them later in our neighborhoods. That is reckless, dangerous, and the exact opposite of what we should be doing in order to prevent the sort of confrontations we are seeing in other sanctuary states and cities. We must enforce the law, protect constitutional rights, and welcome legal immigrants all at the same time. Unfortunately, as usual, Maura Healey would rather grandstand than problem solve.”
