BOSTON, MA – Brian Shortsleeve, Marine, businessman, proven government reformer, and Republican candidate for governor issued the following statement today reacting to Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s lawsuits against nine cities and towns refusing to comply with former Housing Secretary Mike Kennealy’s MBTA Communities Act’s guidelines:
“Mike Kennealy gave Maura Healey and Andrea Campbell a hammer, and now they are using it to bludgeon local communities into submission. The MBTA Communities Act is a failed law that uses coercion, threats, and punishment to force cities and towns to do Beacon Hill’s top-down bidding. As governor, I will work for a full repeal on Day One, and instead work to reform our permitting process and building codes, and open up state-owned land for housing development.”
