At a time when state revenues are through the roof, taxpayers need relief
BOSTON, MA – Today, Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor, called on Governor Maura Healey to support the effort to cut the state’s income tax from 5% to 4%.
“State tax revenues have never been higher. Healey should not be dodging the question. She should be supporting taxpayer relief by endorsing the ballot question to reduce the income tax,” said Shortsleeve. “At a time when families are fleeing Massachusetts as economic refugees, Healey should be taking every opportunity to make Massachusetts more affordable for taxpayers. I am in full support of this measure, and I call on Governor Healey to join me.”
During the past three years, Healey’s policies have made Massachusetts unaffordable for working families. A recent Boston Globe/Suffolk University poll revealed that one in three Massachusetts residents have considered leaving the state in the past year.
“Healey’s policies have contributed to making Massachusetts one of the highest cost of living states in the nation,” Shortsleeve added. “As governor, my number one focus will be to give taxpayers and businesses relief, and reducing the income tax would be a top priority, whether or not this ballot measure passes.”
