Minogue Must Answer Why Identifying As Republican Is Anti-Constitution
BOSTON, MA – Today, Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for governor made the following statement today reacting to Mike Minogue’s doubling-down on not identifying as a Republican, per his comments in MassLive.
“Mike doesn’t get it. No one asks him to swear an oath to the Republican Party to be its nominee for governor. But we do ask that, at the bare minimum, you identify as a Republican. By his own admission he does not, and that’s a big problem. We have a proud tradition of electing Republican governors in this state, and Massachusetts is better off for it. It’s why I have spent decades working hard for local Republican candidates and donating more, by far, than any candidate in the race to Massachusetts Republican candidates and causes. As a Marine, I very much appreciate Mike’s service, but I swore the same oath to the Constitution that Mike did in the Army, and I know that identifying as a Republican does not put me in violation of that oath. Mike obviously believes differently, and he needs to tell us why he believes identifying as a Republican makes you anti-Constitution, and why he is running to lead a party he views with such contempt.”
