BOSTON,MA – Marine Corps veteran, successful business leader, and Republican candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve today announced his strong support for the two newly filed 2026 ballot initiatives aimed at rebuilding Massachusetts’ economic competitiveness: a phased income tax cut and a reform to the state’s revenue cap law.
“Under Maura Healey, the Commonwealth has returned to the bad old days of‘ Taxachusetts,’ said Shortsleeve. “Healey’s answer to every problem has been the same: spend more, tax more, and hope for the best. That approach has driven families out of state and made it harder for businesses to grow and hire here. These ballot questions are a much-needed course correction. They’ll put money back in the hands of taxpayers and bring discipline to a state budget that’s grown completely out of control.”
Shortsleeve called the income tax cut – a reduction from 5% to 4% over three years – “a long-overdue lifeline for working families and small businesses.” He also praised the proposed revenue cap reform as “a smart way to make sure Beacon Hill shares excess revenue resulting from over taxation instead of spending every dime.”
“New Hampshire has no income tax and no sales tax. If they can do it, surely we can afford to cut the income tax by one percentage point. This isn’t just good policy. It’s essential if we want to stop the bleeding and keep talent, jobs, and investment here in Massachusetts,” Shortsleeve added.
He pledged to campaign alongside the coalition backing the measures and will make tax relief and fiscal responsibility a centerpiece of his administration if elected governor.
