Shortsleeve Supports Voter ID

Jul 8, 2025

BOSTON, MA –  Today ahead of the Elections Laws Committee hearing Marine Corps Veteran, successful business leader, and proven government reformer Brian Shortsleeve, Republican candidate for Governor, announced his support for a Massachusetts voter identification law.

“Elections have consequences, so we need to ensure the highest level of integrity.  I support Massachusetts joining the growing list of states requiring voter identification at the polls,” said Shortsleeve.  “With the costly surge of migrants into our state, it is especially important that we pass a voter identification law.”

The Joint Committee on Election Laws is holding a hearing on Senator Peter Durant’s and Representative Donnie Berthiaume’s bills to require voters to show photo identification at polling places to vote.  The bills are S.510 and H.802.

“A photo identification is required to fly, buy a cell phone, open a bank account, pick up a prescription and even attend the Massachusetts Democrat State Convention.  It is a reasonable request,” said Shortsleeve.

Thirty-five states require voters to show identification at the polls on Election Day.  Twenty-three require an ID with a phone and 12 accept other forms of identification.
